Gender in Crisis Prevention and Peace and Security Policy

From 2003 until 2006, the Working Group served as a consultancy and support committee for the Feminist Institute on issues related to [peace and security policy, and conflict prevention]. Since the beginning of November 2006, the examination of this topic continues on a network-basis. External members volunteer their time.

Responsibilities and Goals

  • Consultancy and Concept Development
The working group discusses and analyzes the european security and defense policy from a gender perspective. It studies the concepts of 'security' and 'defense' of Germany and the European Union and demonstrates what implications they have in the political process. The Working Group develops principles and criteria for a gender-oriented peace and security policy. It consults the Feminist Institute in its development of strategies.

  • Expertise-building and Networking
The Feminist Institute, in conjunction with the Working Group, organizes workshops and expert talks in order to systematically build expertise among women in academia and politics. These events also help in networking and in the planning of larger public events. The Working Group also made considerable contribution to the discussion paper [Peace and Security for All].
