| Presentation of Theses on Gender Mainstreaming
- Barbara Unmüßig, Executive Board of the Heinrich-Boell-Foundation Berlin, Germany
Comments on Theses
After the World Conference on Women in Beijing, gender mainstreaming – developed as a radical concept by the international women’s movement – began to make its way into institutions. In the meantime, there are various experiences and appraisals of gender mainstreaming: from administrations directly responsible for its implementation, from universities accompanying the implementation process, as well as from non-governmental organizations critically monitoring gender mainstreaming.
In this opening panel, Barbara Unmuessig will present theses on gender mainstreaming, which represent the positions of the Heinrich-Boell-Foundation and call for a critical/constructive debate on the history, goals, and methods of gender mainstreaming.
After the presentation, representatives from different world regions and professional contexts will make brief comments on the theses based on their backgrounds and expertise, as well as on the social, cultural and economic realities that gender mainstreaming faces.
