   | Speaker

  • Gret Haller, former Human Rights Ombuds Person for Bosnia-Herzegowina, Switzerland

The lecture will cover the significance of a women’s and gender perspective for international peace, security and conflict management in light of recent developments (i.e. Iraq, Afghanistan) and debates in the field, as well as women’s initiatives leading up to the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action, Chapter E, and UN Resolution 1325. The lecture will also:

  • Problematize how women are used as instruments to legitimize war and military intervention
  • Analyze why despite its binding nature, UN Resolution 1325 has remained largely ineffective
  • Evaluate the UN reform process
  • Assess which strategies are effective for implementing UN Resolution 1325
