 ... Article about the 7th anniversary of the UN resolution 1325 and about activities of the Women's Security Council (WSC) on 1325
The article by Dr. Faiha Abdulhadi was published in the Arabic newspaper "Al-Ayyam" on November 11, 2007. Abstract: "The 7th anniversary of resolution 1325 has been celebrated by the UN Security Council in New York. The women of the world, however, question the need to celebrate this resolution after 7 years of its adoption in October 2000."

 ... NEWW Economic and Political Institute for Women 
In 2008 NEWW is starting a new two-year project called "Women Economic and Political Institute". The goal of the Institute is to contribute towards developing an underdeveloped area of economic justice for women in CEE/NIS. This goal will be accomplished by building the capacity of women NGO activists and women - politicians from CEE/NIS to actively influence and shape policies aiming at improvement of economic situation of women in countries which have been deeply affected by transition to market economy and by globalization.

 ... The Circle of Empowerment: Twenty-Five Years of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women
Adopted in 1979 by the UN General Assembly, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is the most important human rights treaty for women ever created. Essays and personal reflections written by 42 former and current members of CEDAW’s Committee and 5 UN staff members reveal the profound impact this Convention has had on women’s lives around the world. With examples and moving reminiscences from Korea to Egypt, from Russia to the Caribbean and beyond, this collection addresses CEDAW’s impact on women in personal status laws, labor markets, migration, human trafficking, politics, as well as the obstacles created by cultural stereotypes.

 ... European Commission Outlines Plans to Close Gender Pay Gap
The European Commission has unveiled an ambitious four-point plan of action aimed at closing the gender pay gap. The plan, presented by EU employment and equal opportunities commissioner Vladimir Spidla, proposes: Better application of existing legislation; The pay gap be considered an 'integral part' of member states' employment policies; Equal pay be promoted among employers and an exchange of good practices across the EU.

 ... 52nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women
The United Nations Commission on the Status of women will consider the theme: “Financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women” at its 52nd session at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 25 February to 7 March 2008. The work in the Commission will be guided by two reports of the Secretary-General on the theme, one which will identify and discuss key issues in financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women and suggest policy recommendations; and a second which will provide an overview of mainstreaming efforts related to financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women at national level.

The Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) recently released a report on women's rights developments in 2006, entitled "How did Women Fare in 2006?". While women made gains in the political world and reproductive rights became legal protection in many countries around the world, women's rights abuses are still plenty. In preparation of the European Feminist Forum at the end of 2007, the organizers in Amsterdam are calling for Affinity Groups (groups that will work on a subject of their choice) to make contributions for the planning of the Forum.
