Feminist Positions on Peace & Security

Thematic Focus of the Feminist Institute

Gender continues to be largely ignored and neglected in mainstream discussions of peace and security policy. This silence in the mainstream is also reflected in political discussions and policy. Since 2003, the Feminist Institute has focused on bringing feminist perspectives into discussions of peace and security policy on all levels.

Theoretical work is prepared by the volunteer working group "Gender in Peace and Security Policies and civilian Conflict Prevention." For three years now the working group has helped the Feminist Institute with the theoretical work that formed the basis of the discussion paper "Peace and Security for All."

Mediating between academic research and politics and between feminist and mainstream-positions are a central theme of the Feminist Institute's events, roundtable discussions, and expert workshops. Staff members of the Feminist Institute are often participants in national and international debates.

Lobbying is done by the Feminist Institute through its participation in the German Women's Security Council. UN Resolution 1325 lies at the heart of the cooperation between peace organizations and individual women.

Distribution of information is achieved through the GLOW portal. Here we collect links to peace initiatives, track events, document our own events, and follow current debates.
