Transnational Perspectives “The huge interest in this event on gender justice, the largest in the last few years in Germany, demonstrates the political necessity of finally placing women’s issues on the agenda worldwide,” stated Barbara Unmuessig, initiator of the congress and member of the Executive Board of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Berlin.
It is urgent to debate over the differing consequences that political and economic actions have for women and men – especially with a perspective that reaches beyond one’s own national borders.
“The goal of gender justice needs to be the entrenchment of political, economic, social and cultural rights in all countries of the world,” underlined Unmuessig. This makes cultural relativism as a justification for the violation of women’s rights just as unacceptable as wars fought in the name of women’s rights. Read more at [Presse] - German only. |
Global Gender Justice Through Femme Globale, the women’s and gender right’s movement has re-emphasized its desire to shape the most important issues of the present and future, such as:
- Foreign and security policy
- Global trade and finance policy
- Labor market and social policy
- International migration policy
- Information society and biopolitics
Ingrid Spiller, head of the International Politics Department at the Heinrich Böll Foundation and coordinator of Femme Globale, emphasized, “We need to become louder and act offensively. We need combatants committed to the struggle for gender justice more than ever.” See also [Focal Points] |
