    The Feminist Internet Portal GLOW

Global Center of Women's Politics

Logo GLOW

is a feminist internet platform that acts as the virtual pillar of the Feminist Institute. GLOW documents and strengthens the media presence of women in the World Wide Web. Currently, one can access over 1000 pages as a starting point for information, research projects, and continuing education and learning opportunities on feminist politics. GLOW is not the homepage of the Feminist Institute. Instead, GLOW:

  • Documents feminist activities and projects.
  • Reports on women’s empowerment in regions worldwide.
  • Updates users on the global and regional concerns of women.

GLOW also supports political campaigns such as the initiatives of the Women’s Security Council in Germany or comments on international political developments from a gender perspective such as on UN Reform. International conferences such as Femme Globale, which took place in Berlin in September 2005, also use GLOW as a platform for documentation and dialogue.

The e-learning platform, ‘Virtual Campus’ facilitates intercultural exchange on the net. Currently this area is used by decentralized work groups and initiatives who prepare their meetings online, write papers together and carry on their discussion on the Web. In the past, Virtual Campus was used for transnational seminars among universities from different cities and countries.

To enhance the user-friendliness of GLOW, we carried out an evaluation in 2003. Using an online questionnaire we asked our users what interested them about GLOW and how GLOW could be improved. With the GLOW relaunch in February 2005, we have finally tried to incorporate these recommendations. Should you have any further suggestions for the improvement of GLOW, we would gladly welcome them!

More background information about GLOW is available in the German version. Here you can access articles written about GLOW (Veröffentlichungen) and information about the conference feminist_spaces - where the idea for a feminist Internet portal was first initiated!
